The RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, and as well as that provide seasonal lifeguards that look after people whilst on the beaches around the U.K. they also help people affected by flooding

Since the RNLI began in 1824, crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,200 lives, and go beyond being just a rescue service. They influence, supervise and educate people too. They are a charity though, and depend on donations to continue to help people all over the world. Events like Falmouth’s sea shanty allow us all to enjoy being by the water, and show our appreciation for the safety this charity provides us.

Falmouth international sea shanty festival

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival was founded in 2003 by Falmouth Shout, a group of singers whose mission is to keep alive the history of Tall Ships and the days of sail by performing sea shanties, songs of the sea and Cornish songs. One of the festivals main aims is to raise money for the RNLI. shanty groups come from all over the world to sing and play, and its a weekend to really appreciate all that’s good about the oceans and seas, and the people who help keep us all safe.
